LED is the technology platform for Morfoso's
products. The LED technology is new in the
scope of general lighting and deserves to be
treated as such.
Morfoso believes that LED is not a substitute for conventional light sources such as incandesant, halogen or compact flouresent lightsources. It is something new with far greater potential in terms of light output and low energy consumption than ever seen before in the field of general lighting. The LED is smaller and far more sturdy than filament bulbs and its small size grant designers and engineers far more freedom in the design and development process. Therefore the LED is to be designed for and designed with in order to ensure the customer the full potential of the technology.
Morfoso will combine the technology in carefully designed products to optimize the lifetime of the product, reduce energy consumption and enhance the color rendering provided by the light from the product.

WHAT IS LED?

The
LED or Light Emitting Diode is a semi-
conductor equal to transistors in radios and computers.
Theese small units function by electrons jumping between two layers of semiconductive material and in this process emitting light as the electrons movement from one electrical potential to another releases energy. This to an extend making it possible to create general lighting applications.
Most people know the LED to be the small green or red indicator lamp indicating the stand-by function of various electrical appliances.
However LEDs are moreoften seen as display- and button backlighting on cellular phones, notebooks, brake lights and turn sign indicators in automobiles. And now in general lighting aplications.

HOW DOES MORFOSO USE LED?

LEDs are new lightsources which offers
new possibilities. It would be the ultimate waste of potential to replace existing lightbulbs with LEDs without altering the design of the fixture. By designing for the LED we ensure the customer the benefits of the LED.
Morfosos primary rule of design is that each feature has a function. This goes for the light as well as the design in general.

LED offers so many advantages that the technology deserve a carefully thought out design and concept as a whole. This is why you will find it hard to replace the LED in any of Morfosos products with any other type of lightsource.
The LED is simply placed where no other ligtsource would make sense. Be it in terms of light output, lifetime of the light source, durability, color tone/ temperature and color rendering.

WHAT MAKES IT SPECIAL?

What makes the LED so special is that the semiconductor technology offers a wide range of possibilities. The LED is fully dimmable with no disturbance of the predetermined color of the light. Furthermore the LED is ideal for dynamic colorchange. By use of the DMX 512 protocol or simply a potentiometer, it is possible to tune in the light in any color determined by the user. This resulting in more or less realistic color rendering scenarios.
In the lab Danish scientists have experimented with tuning in the light of the Red, Green and Blue LED for a white light combination almost identical to the well known and treasured incandesant light.



WHAT HAPPENS TO OTHER LIGHT SOURCES?

Other well known light sources such as incandesant, halogen, sodium, flourescent and compact flourescent light sources have slowly reached the maximum of their potential in terms of light output per watt input (Lumen/watt or Lm/w).
Ongoing experiments are trying to enhance liftime, color rendering and color temperature of the light from theese traditional lightsources. And also the efficiency. But progress is slow and expensive. The most inefficient types of light sources such as Incandesant are bound to be phased out by various producers and by will of government officials world wide.
In general LED is on the brink of outrunning the
above mentioned light sources on various indictors of good light.
It has outrun halogen and incandesant in terms of efficiency and in lab tests also various Metal Halide type of lamps. Those whom are not yet beaten in terms af efficiency are outrun in terms of color rendering and lifetime expectancy.

WHAT IS TO EXPECT NEXT?

What the future brings no one can can say for certain. But LED is here to stay and in the process of growing better, more efficient and cheaper.
We will see various energy efficient domestic applications, furniture, street lighting and highway illumination. Also construction elements with build in lights will find its way to the marked.

It is almost certain that in the near future Governments across the globe willl take initiative to regulate energy consumption in new buildings and office complexes by determining a certain percentage of the light originating from LED fixtures.
